Foundational numeracy that builds up to tougher topics down the line. Place values, patterns, measurement, fractions, geometry - these are all things that contribute to future success. However, younger minds tend to struggle with long periods of focus.
The most common age of learners looking for some help. Algebra, functions and equations, trigonometry, factorization - these can get really tough and school lessons can fly by without deep understanding or retention. Best to dedicate at least an hour for this age range.

Some kids can tell you exactly where math stopped making sense; others just know they dread it. I taught in a classroom before I taught one-on-one, and I know how overwhelming the school year can be. In our sessions, we're not just answering the problem set that the teacher provided. We're finding the actual gap and working at whatever pace turns "I'm bad at math" into "I've got this."

Danica was one of the many great tutors that I was lucky to have growing up. We worked on basic algebra, functions and relations, slope-intercept form, and graphical interpolation and extrapolation. I think we also worked on polynomials, but we didn’t get much work done on that before my time with her ended. Danica made math engaging, and she met me where I was at in terms of ability level. If a concept came quickly to me, she’d check to make sure my understanding of it was firm and correct, and then we’d move on to something new. If I struggled with something, she would patiently help me through it. She was also personable and empathetic, which isn’t always the case with tutors. Although I find math in general to be interesting, Danica made it more interesting by showing me practical applications for some of the concepts that we worked on together.
